Warner Parents,
Reminder that we are delivering lunches today at noon.

Our current 6th grade ELA unit is on technology. Today we learned about robots that perform jobs. We were introduced to Sophia, an AI (artificial intelligence) robot who became a citizen of Saudi Arabia. We also played Quick Draw, a game that learns as you draw and can guess what it is that you are drawing.

More amazing news for our seniors! Jade Larsen received news that she was accepted into Cal State San Marcos! Jade will be majoring in Psychology and is looking into careers in the Mental Health field. We are so proud of you and know that you will be an amazing addition to CSUSM and succeed in the Mental Health field. Way to go Jade! Go Cougars!

Dear Warner Parents,
We know times are tough with COVID-19 and that this is not the best learning environment for students. The students are missing out on field trips, sports, socializing and all the fun parts of growing up. The isolation is increasing mental health issues like depression and anxiety.
It hasn't been easy on staff either. Fear of coming to school when there is a surge in the pandemic. Switching instruction from in-person to online and learning zoom and google classroom. There are some many more requirements on teachers from the state to ensure they are reaching out and doing their part for both in-person and online students, and much more paperwork to verify this. Teachers have adjusted to the new way of things and are being pretty lenient and accommodating when it comes to the students.
Even with accommodation, we are still having vast number of students missing class and not turning in work. We will have vast numbers of students that will fail their classes if things don't change.
Parents I am pleading with you, please make sure your son or daughter is attending online class and turning in work. If you have questions or concerns please reach out to their teachers. The school is accommodating but there still an expectation that students attend and do the work. I know no parent wants to see their child fail. No teacher wants to see that either, lets all work together through this strange time and have our children succeed.
Have a good day,
Dave MacLeod

Good morning Warner Parents. Due to the road conditions because of the snow we will postpone lunch delivery until tomorrow. See you tomorrow at noon if you are on the lunch list for pickup.

You will have to come to the school to pickup as there will not be a delivery that day. If you want to receive this special holiday lunch pickup you need to call the district office to sign up.
Second item, a few weeks ago, we mailed out Impact Aid Surveys to all the Warner households. The due date for these forms has changed from November 20th to December 18th, the last day before winter break! Dear Warner Parents and staff,,
Power is back on and we will have school today. Excited to be back.

Dear Warner Parents and Staff,
With half the district still with no power and a majority of the students doing online we will unfortunately have to close school for tomorrow. The wind is expected to die down tomorrow and the red flag warning should be over tomorrow evening.

Dear Warner Parents and staff,
Unfortunately due to high winds and power outage there will be no school tomorrow. How to see everyone in class on Wednesday.

Reminder that lunch delivery will be occurring today at noon for last week.

Dear Warner Parents & Staff,
On Fridays, students normally do not attend school other than a quick online meeting and tutorials with their teachers. Due to the wide spread power outages we will be cancelling online lessons and tutorials tomorrow. We will also be cancelling the normal lunch deliveries as many families have stated they do not have working fridges or freezers to receive the meals. We will instead delivery Monday and Friday of next week. Sorry for the inconvenience. Remember to check out the Warner Resource Center during outages for items to help during these trying times.

Warner Parents and staff,
Due to the high wind Advisory and the power outages we will be canceling school for today. There will be no online lessons as well. Sorry for the early morning call.

If you have any questions please call the district office at 760-782-3517.

Dear Warner Parents,
Warner Unified has partnered with different organizations to help bring better internet to the backcountry. Our hotspots have helped most families get adequate internet but there are still areas that are not receiving internet. If you or someone you know isn't receiving adequate internet please fill out the following survey:
https://oshunsorchard.com/san-diego-backcountry-starlink-survey/
https://oshunsorchard.com/san-diego-backcountry-starlink-survey-spanish/
This survey is created by the owners of the Ranchita store who have been working with Starlink (Elon Musk's company) to make sure we have the demand to get Starlink in our area.

Dear Warner Parents,
Reminder that as we move into flu season and COVID cases are on the rise. We all need to do our part to keep our school safe. Please symptom screening each morning before sending your kids to school. Do not send your child to school if they have any of the following: fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, loss of smell or taste, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.

Reminder Warner parents and staff that in-person classes will be back on Monday. We will also be delivering lunches on Monday and Friday this week. Regular time and regular place. If you can not make it to pick up the lunches, please call so the lunch doesn't go to waste.

Dear Warner Parents,
Here is a quick important message. Reminder that tomorrow is lunch delivery day. We will not be delivering the following week because of the holidays. The delivery will be on the following Monday November 30th. There will be 2 deliveries that week.
I also am happy to report since we quarantined we have had no extra Covid cases. Shutting down the school was an extra step just incase the quarantine didn't work. There has been no spread of Covid between our initial 2 cases and the staff and students who came in contact. Our safeguards were a successful.
We will be returning to school November 30th for in-person classes. We still ask parents to symptom screen every morning and not to send students to school who have symptoms.
Thank you everyone and have a good night.

Mrs. Zurcher-Upson and Mrs.Sutton
(School Counselor) teamed up today and presented to the freshman Bio class their SAE project assignment. This year students are completing a Career Exploration component. One of the sections asks students "What agriculture and academic classes should you take to be prepared for the next steps after high school". This was a perfect opportunity to learn about the A-G requirements and also Dual enrollment through Palomar College. A fun game of Kahoot was a great way to end the lesson.

Palomar Spring schedule is up! If you are interested in taking a Palomar class contact Mrs.Sutton ASAP!
Kelcy.sutton@warnerusd.net

Dear Warner Parents & Staff,
We had our 2nd positive Covid test today. As this person is in the same household as the first positive case, it was expected. We have quarantined everyone that has come in contact with either of the two positive cases. We have completed all of our contact tracing procedures and reached out to all staff and students who needed to be quarantined. We have already received many results from the quarantined group, so far all negative for Covid-19. I have had daily contact with public health experts at the county and have gone above and beyond their expectations in our response to this event. We feel pretty confident that we have contained this event.
We are going to go one step further and switch the district to online for next week. By doing online learning next week and having Thanksgiving the following week we are basically quarantining the whole district. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but we need to make sure this does not go any further. We need parents and students to also do their part and minimize their contact to only essential errands. Continue to social distance, wash your hands and wear a mask. Teachers will be reaching out to students and parents before Monday with the schedule for next week. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at david.macleod@warnerusd.net.

It was a pleasant surprise to find one of my art student’s, second grader Stephanie E.’s, mindfulness artwork in my school mailbox. Elementary art students are supplied monthly art lessons to accompany our guidance counselor Mrs. Sutton’s elementary social and emotional learning lessons. Each month has a different theme; so far the students have received lessons covering mindfulness, empathy, career exploration, and gratitude. Great work Stephanie!

This is the last of the 1st Trimester 2020 Art 2 Galleries. Art 2 was a self-directed course where students researched 8 different cultural arts, art time periods or art movements of their choosing; wrote a summary of each chosen subject; created an original artwork in the style of their subject and composed an artist’s statement explaining their creative process.
The first photo highlights 11th grader Chelsea W. I have included her artist’s statement below her artwork. Chelsea is an excellent artist and found some not well known but very cool art movements to research and create artwork from. I learned a lot from her!
The other photos include the last two class projects.
This was an excellent group of young artists. Thank you for being my students!

Tomorrow I will down upper elementary .

Hello,
The Senior class wanted me to share this:
I thought you might be interested in supporting this GoFundMe, https://www.gofundme.com/f/warner-high-school-class-of-2021?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet
Even a small donation could help Hannah Dimitrov (senior advisor teacher) reach their fundraising goal. And if you can't make a donation, it would be great if you could share the fundraiser to help spread the word.
Thanks for taking a look!

Though travel is still up in the air, the Class of 2021 is hoping that they will get to do something special together at graduation. We are looking forward to a happy ending to a strange year. The future of the c/o 2021 is bright! Donate to the class here: https://gf.me/u/y4srd9

Second semester Art 1, which I refer to as Art 2, consists of guided, self-directed student projects which include a summary of a student chosen cultural art, notable period of time and/or art movement, an original art work reflecting the students' chosen summary subject and an artist’s statement.
I would like to share some excellent student works and their accompanying artist statement which includes:
A title and medium of the artist’s work, a description of the artwork itself, a description of the subject matter and choice of medium.
The purpose of an artist’s statement is to provide insight into a work of art, not only to the viewer but the artist themselves.

Texture Projects Art 1
Warner Springs High School students have finished a series of texture assignments.
The assignment included;
1)Take a cellphone photo that contains 3 actual (real) textures in one shot.
2)Create a simulated texture artwork (reproducing the actual, real texture of an object).
3)Create an invented texture artwork (changing the actual texture of an object to something else, or inventing a texture by using a printing technique such as rubbing over or imprinting an existing texture).
4)Create an abstract texture artwork where the texture itself is the main focus of the work).

Attention High School students interested in attending college out of state.

Warner Parents,
Reminder that today is lunch pickup day at 11 am to 1 pm at the cafeteria. Please bring bags for all the food.

I’m delighted to share the first of my high school Art 2 students’ work.
In order for the students to expand their knowledge of art history, explore different art styles, improve their artistic skills and gain an understanding of the creative process, second trimester high school academic art instruction includes; 1) research into the art of a specific culture, time period or art movement of the student’s choice and a written summary, 2) creation of an original art work that adopts the style of the culture, time period or art movement and 3) writing an artist’s statement which talks about their artwork and the processes used in its creation.
Bravo!
Mrs. Krasowski

IT Essentials & CTE CS, students created a map with interactive component labels pointed to helpful info pages. As a class we update and use these links to do research about the Raspberry Pi 4. Later, students will build these maps in greater detail and about more complex hardware. These are worth every minute of hard work as they can be easily used for studying and reference.

Dear Warner Parents,
There seems to be some confusion and excitement with our last notice. Let me reiterate what we know right now. Warner Unified is going to slowly open up and start bringing in small groups of students that need in help, assessing, or testing in person. That is all we are going to do to start. If a family doesn't feel comfortable then you don't need to have your student come physically in. We will still be offering our current online model. Warner Unified will monitor the COVID-19 numbers and how other schools are doing and then decide where to go from there. Even when we open school up we will still be offering an online model. If you have questions, please call the district office for clarity.

Dear Warner Parents,
The county of San Diego has given school districts the green light to start opening up next week. Warner Unified will proceed with caution and monitor the situation. We are going to safely and slowly open our doors and allow small groups of students to return. We will have all our safeguards in place and monitor how that goes first. Then we can believe looking at transporting students on the buses and having them back in classes. I know this is an inconvenience to some but our first priority is our students’ safety. More information will be coming, but for the remainder of this week and next week, we will be continuing with distance learning.
Thank you,
David MacLeod
Superintendent

Warner Parents,
We have started our lunch program on Fridays. Elementary art student Mundy sharing his first online art project, a zentangle hand. Excellent use of line variety and filling in the background space, thanks for sharing Mundy, made my day!
Warner’s art teacher Mrs. Krasowski (aka Mrs.K) is collaborating with our guidance counselor Mrs. Sutton and providing elementary art lessons that are connected to subjects covered in the elementary guidance calendar. The first month is mindfulness and the art projects include calming art activities.

Reminder that Warner Food Service starts tomorrow. We will have a week's worth of food ready for pick up at the cafeteria. If your last name starts with A - G 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, H - M 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, N - S 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM, T - Z 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM. Please remember to wear a mask and bring a bag or box for the food. Only parents, legal guardians or students can pick the food up. If there is an issue, please call the district office 760-782-3517.

Dear Warner Parents & Guardians,
School orientation went well. It was good seeing all the students even if it was just for a short time as they picked up their Chromebooks and textbooks. Just like every school in the Nation, Warner Unified is scrambling to meet the digital demand, and we ended up short on some hotspots. I apologize to any families that currently didn’t get one. We have a bunch on back-order and will get them out as soon as they arrive.

Warner Parents,
As you might be aware that governor Newsom just announced at noon today a plan for schools. Schools on the county watch list will have to maintain distance learning. San Diego county is currently on the watchlist, which means we need to start school by doing distance learning. We will still start August 12th.
We were in the process of developing a plan that would allow for two options that parents could choose from:
1) with students returning to school 100% of the time
2) with students doing online distance learning.
I will be sharing out this plan as this will most likely be the plan to reopen school once SD is off the watch list.

Warner Parents,
I wanted to communicate the following information about reopening of school for 2020-21. As of right now we don’t have a detailed plan. I have been meeting with the other 42 superintendents in the county and brainstorming options. Each school district is coming up with plans that best fit their district and they vary widely. We have one survey from the parents and input from the teachers. I will put out a survey to classified staff (staff other than teachers) this week. As we flesh out the plan some more we will send out more surveys for input. As Covid-19 is a very political topic we want to present options to parents to make decisions that best fit their comfort levels for their children. Please be patient with us as we look at all our options. If you have any input or questions please feel free to email me at david.macleod@warnerusd.net and I will be happy to get back to you.
Thank you,
Dave MacLeod

👍

Warner Parents,
As we prepare for 2020-21 school year and dealing with a pandemic, we need your input. Please fill out this quick survey.

Students attending a promotion be 15 minutes early. Students have your cars decorated. Let's end this unique school year with a unique celebration.

Our trusted bus mechanic at Fleet Maintenance Services donated 4 school buses to Warner Unified fleet. The vehicles were used in another school district that Fleet Maintenance Services performed the maintenence for. When their preschool program no longer transported students the buses were no longer needed. Fleet Maintenance Services got them for Warner. The buses have low mileage and are in great condition. This is a huge donation for Warner. Thank you Fleet Maintenance Services.

Warner Parents,
Reminder that lunches are delivered on Tuesday at 12:30 pm due to the long weekend.

Congratulations Leianna! Leianna was accepted into several colleges and she has made her decision....Otis College of Art and Design! While at Warner, Leianna participated in ASB, Class Council, and was a stand out Art student. She also has taken American Sign Language at Palomar College and even attended Otis last summer and completed two courses! Your bright smile and positive attitude will be missed! Congratulations Leianna we are so proud of you!

Senior brag moment! Kim is finishing her high school career with a 3.78 GPA and is also a CTE pathway Completer for AG. She participated in ASB the last two years and also helped out with her class counsel. Not to mention she also served as the Student Board representative this year. The staff loves Kim's kind spirit, willingness to always to do the right thing and her awesome sense of humor. She was accepted into a few colleges and has decided to take advantage of the Palomar Promise . Kim is all set and has already "virtually" met with her Palomar College counselor to start on her General Ed requirements in the fall, with plans for transferring to Cal State San Marcos. We will miss you on the morning announcements! We are so proud of you Kim!

Thinking about a career in the US Air Force? Here's a great zoom event!

WE LOVE OUR SENIORS!

Senior Brag Time! Alexandria was an amazing asset on Campus. She was a great student and also an awesome athlete . She participated in Volleyball and Softball and still found time be involved in ASB for three years. She applied and was chosen for the Fire Explorer Program. This was no easy feat! With a lengthy application process and also a physical agility test ....which she of course handled with ease:) Her dream is to become a firefighter and she is defiantly on the right track! We are so proud of you Alex, and can't wait to see what all you will continue to accomplish!

Good evening Warner Parents,
This is Superintendent Dave MacLeod with an important message. In an effort to improve the variety in our lunches we have partnered with a 3rd party company that will bring more variety to our lunches, including 1 hot meal. To make this work we need to switch from Friday delivery to Monday at 1 pm. Everything else will stay the same, same locations, same packet pickup. Just different day and different time. See you Monday at 1 pm. Also, student who missed getting their packets last week can pick them up at the district office from 8 am to noon this week.

Nitasha Drake made her decision! She will be attending UCLA in the fall Majoring in Law with a Minor in American Indian Studies. I want to remind parents to have their students check their Warner emails for correspondence from their teachers. Teachers have been reaching out to students and many are not responding. Parents please make sure your child is working on their work daily so they don't get too far behind.

We worked with our neighboring school District of Spencer Valley to find some extra food. We had a donation from the San Diego Food bank thanks to the Patrice from the Warner Resource Center. I also want to shout out to my wonderful team of Rhonda, Shannon, Julie, Carla, and Blanca for making this happen. This all goes to helping families out, thank you eveyone.

This is a message from SDG&E. Please share out.
We want to remind you of SDG&E’s direct assistance programs that can help people experiencing financial hardships due to COVID-19. Many may qualify for SDG&E assistance programs and bill discount programs. Those programs are available at https://www.sdge.com/residential/pay-bill/get-payment-bill-assistance/assistance-programs and include the following:
California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE): Provides a 30% or more discount on monthly bills for customers with qualifying current household income or customers who are participating in certain public assistance programs.
Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA): If a customer doesn’t qualify for CARE, they may qualify for FERA, which provides income-qualified households of three or more with a reduced electric rate (12%) on their monthly bill.
Medical Baseline Allowance: Customers who have a qualifying medical need or necessarily use a medical device (i.e. for a compromised immune system, life-threatening illness, or any condition where additional heating and air conditioning or a qualifying device is medically necessary to sustain a person’s life) are eligible for a significant discount on their energy bill. Household income is not a factor for qualifying, but a doctor’s certification on the application is required.

Congratulations to Jayton Chapton for getting an honorable mention in CaliforniaStreaming.org Digital Photography Contest for his photo Best Defense. Thanks to Alvin Abraham for coaching the photography after school program.

As a precaution and with consultation with local public health agencies, Warner Unified will be closing schools and cancelling all events and sports for the next 2 weeks. We will assess thereafter. The talent show tonight and the after school program will also be cancelled today. All students will be bused home at 3 pm.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused but student safety is our number one priority. Teachers had worked hard to get packets out just in case this did occur. The packets are not mandatory but are highly recommended so students don’t lose the hard work they have gained this year. I encourage you to have your son or daughters complete the work we have sent home. If your son or daughter was absent when packets were sent home we are currently mailing those students’ packets home.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Warner District office.
Thank you and please be safe,
Dave MacLeod
Superintendent.

Due to the heavy rains and road conditions we are canceling the after-school program today. All students will go home at 3 pm today. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to your family but student priority is our first concern.
