Third and sixth grade art students used their imaginations to create abstract dot to dot works of art as an introductory art lesson when elementary classes started again at the beginning of the 2nd Trimester. Students drew and connected 4 dots to create a rectangle, then drew 20 random dots in the created space and randomly connected them. Next, students began the process of seeing if any creatures or items appeared in the shapes created by dotting the dots. If so, they changed the shapes into found creatures, items; if not they created an abstract design drawing.

For our last speech of the trimester, Public Speaking student Wom'$i chose to educate us on a very crucial issue: the alarming rate of Native American women who go missing. She provided us with well-researched statistics, specific examples, and wonderful resources on how to help. Thank you Wom'$i for choosing to speak from the heart about a problem that needs so much more attention!

9th grade just finished "Fahrenheit 451," and are left feeling inspired to imagine their own futures. The dystopian novel suggests an entirely different future, so we begun group projects in which we create our own! Paired with an essay on the dynamics of our decisions, we see how our actions affect the future for all.
I have created a Go Fund Me page for the high school beading group. Hello Everyone, My name is Shanell Sands; I am the School counselor here at Warner. I am very exciting to be here and to have the opportunity to do what I love. I am a passionate and creative person. As a counselor my role is to be a student advocate while also promoting positivity and getting students on the right track for college and career. I am also here to provide guidance and social/emotional support if needed. I let the student know that my door is always open, if they need some support or have any questions. I received my BA in Education with a minor in Child development, because I wanted to teach. While doing some student teaching I discovered I wanted to help in smaller groups while still working with student so I went on to get my Masters in School Counseling with a PPS credential. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 3 boys. Moreover, once or twice a month I try and get some me time by scrapbooking or writing, anything I can do to use my creative.

Dear Warner Parents, Warner Unified School District is concerned about recent “TikTok Challenges” that impact our school community. Last month, a challenge called the “Devious Lick” encouraged students to damage and steal school property. Yesterday, we were alerted to a troubling new “TikTok Challenge” called “Slap a Teacher.” We value our educators; their safety—as well as the safety of our students—is our highest priority. We will not tolerate any behavior resulting in violence to staff members or students, nor will we ignore behavior that causes damage to or the defacing of school property. Please partner with us in keeping our educators, students and facilities safe for everyone. Talk with your children about appropriate, respectful behavior and your expectations for their appropriate behavior as students and community members in our schools. Students who willfully touch an educator in a harmful manner will face immediate disciplinary action which may result in expulsion from school or criminal prosecution. We appreciate your support, and it is my sincere hope that all WUSD students demonstrate good judgement and make choices that ensure the safety of everyone in our school community. David MacLeod, Superintendent

Dear Warner Parents, Transportation will be back to normal for school tomorrow. We again apologize for the inconvenience. Reminder that there is no school on Friday.
Warner Parents, sorry for the late call. We again are having personnel issues with our busing and currently have no backup drivers. There is a nation-wide shortage for school bus drivers right now. Our third bus driver will be certified Thursday afternoon but this doesn't help us right now. So again we will need to have students dropped off at school or attend online. Teachers will be in contact with students in the morning. Staff are to report to school tomorrow. We will let you know what the situation is for Thursday. Reminder that there is no school on Friday to honor Native American Day. We regret this busing situation and hope to remedy this ASAP.

Dear Warner Parents, This is Dave MacLeod with an important message. Tomorrow the High School will return from quarantine. Our safety protocol measures worked well and stopped any further spread of Delta variant. Going forward parents have to make a choice that their child attends in-person or works in Independent Study, there isn't a 3rd option of pulling students here and there. If the school predicts a risk of potential contact we quarantine. The state does not see missing school as a option if the student doesn't have symptoms or isn't quarantined. I expect to see all students back at school tomorrow. If you would like to discuss independent study as an option, please call the district office and I will be happy to explain this option. Have a great Day.
Follow up message about tomorrow. School is only online tomorrow because of our busing issue. You are free to bring your child to school or have them work from home online. We will send devices home today. We will be back to normal on Monday.
Dear Warner Parents, We are sorry to inform you that we need to switch to online learning tomorrow due to a staffing issue for Friday the 17th. School will be online and teachers will be reaching out with more information on class schedules and links. The school will be open for child care and in-person instruction, students either need to be online or dropped off and picked up. Reminder that Fridays are minimal days and school lets out at 1 pm.

Dear Warner Parents, Reminder that Preschool, Kinder and 4th grade will have completed the 10 days of quarantine tonight and we expect them back at school tomorrow. I understand there is a lot of fear concerning COVID-19 Delta but schools are still one of the safest locations. We have had 3 families test positive from outside sources and our quarantines have worked. We continue with masking, symptom screening and contact tracing and we will get through this school year. I understand there is a lot of social media that flames the fears and the misinformation. If you have concerns please contact the epidemiology school line at 619-692-8636 and they will discuss quarantine guidelines. Warner is going above and beyond by doing grade level and school-wide quarantining to ensure we encompass all students that may have come into contact. Reminder Middle schoolers are back to school on Monday.

The IRS is reaching out to America’s school districts to help spread the word about the 2021 Advance Child Tax Credit payments, which could be to up to $1,800 per qualifying child. These payments are made automatically to taxpayers who qualified on their 2020 tax returns. Our current outreach efforts are focused on low-income families who may not be required to file tax returns. We have developed a tool that can help these families get the Advanced Child Tax Credit payments and help them get missed Economic Impact Payments (EIP). This could amount to over $14,000 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children who may be struggling to make ends meet. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p5534d.pdf

Dear Warner Parents, We know times are tough with COVID-19 and that this is not the best learning environment for students. The students are missing out on field trips, sports, socializing and all the fun parts of growing up. The isolation is increasing mental health issues like depression and anxiety. It hasn't been easy on staff either. Fear of coming to school when there is a surge in the pandemic. Switching instruction from in-person to online and learning zoom and google classroom. There are some many more requirements on teachers from the state to ensure they are reaching out and doing their part for both in-person and online students, and much more paperwork to verify this. Teachers have adjusted to the new way of things and are being pretty lenient and accommodating when it comes to the students. Even with accommodation, we are still having vast number of students missing class and not turning in work. We will have vast numbers of students that will fail their classes if things don't change. Parents I am pleading with you, please make sure your son or daughter is attending online class and turning in work. If you have questions or concerns please reach out to their teachers. The school is accommodating but there still an expectation that students attend and do the work. I know no parent wants to see their child fail. No teacher wants to see that either, lets all work together through this strange time and have our children succeed. Have a good day, Dave MacLeod
Warner Parents, reminder that lunch delivery is today at noon.

Dear Warner Parents, Warner Unified has partnered with different organizations to help bring better internet to the backcountry. Our hotspots have helped most families get adequate internet but there are still areas that are not receiving internet. If you or someone you know isn't receiving adequate internet please fill out the following survey: https://oshunsorchard.com/san-diego-backcountry-starlink-survey/ https://oshunsorchard.com/san-diego-backcountry-starlink-survey-spanish/ This survey is created by the owners of the Ranchita store who have been working with Starlink (Elon Musk's company) to make sure we have the demand to get Starlink in our area.
Dear Warner Parents, Reminder that as we move into flu season and COVID cases are on the rise. We all need to do our part to keep our school safe. Please symptom screening each morning before sending your kids to school. Do not send your child to school if they have any of the following: fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, loss of smell or taste, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea. A student is to stay home for 14 days or get a COVID test. If the test is negative the student may return after 72 hours after symptoms resolved. If you have any questions please call the district office at 760-782-3517.
Reminder Warner parents and staff that in-person classes will be back on Monday. We will also be delivering lunches on Monday and Friday this week. Regular time and regular place. If you can not make it to pick up the lunches, please call so the lunch doesn't go to waste.
Dear Warner Parents, Here is a quick important message. Reminder that tomorrow is lunch delivery day. We will not be delivering the following week because of the holidays. The delivery will be on the following Monday November 30th. There will be 2 deliveries that week. I also am happy to report since we quarantined we have had no extra Covid cases. Shutting down the school was an extra step just incase the quarantine didn't work. There has been no spread of Covid between our initial 2 cases and the staff and students who came in contact. Our safeguards were a successful. We will be returning to school November 30th for in-person classes. We still ask parents to symptom screen every morning and not to send students to school who have symptoms. Thank you everyone and have a good night. Dave MacLeod Superintendent
Mrs. Zurcher-Upson and Mrs.Sutton (School Counselor) teamed up today and presented to the freshman Bio class their SAE project assignment. This year students are completing a Career Exploration component. One of the sections asks students "What agriculture and academic classes should you take to be prepared for the next steps after high school". This was a perfect opportunity to learn about the A-G requirements and also Dual enrollment through Palomar College. A fun game of Kahoot was a great way to end the lesson.
Palomar Spring schedule is up! If you are interested in taking a Palomar class contact Mrs.Sutton ASAP! Kelcy.firstname.lastname@example.org
Dear Warner Parents & Staff, We had our 2nd positive Covid test today. As this person is in the same household as the first positive case, it was expected. We have quarantined everyone that has come in contact with either of the two positive cases. We have completed all of our contact tracing procedures and reached out to all staff and students who needed to be quarantined. We have already received many results from the quarantined group, so far all negative for Covid-19. I have had daily contact with public health experts at the county and have gone above and beyond their expectations in our response to this event. We feel pretty confident that we have contained this event. We are going to go one step further and switch the district to online for next week. By doing online learning next week and having Thanksgiving the following week we are basically quarantining the whole district. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but we need to make sure this does not go any further. We need parents and students to also do their part and minimize their contact to only essential errands. Continue to social distance, wash your hands and wear a mask. Teachers will be reaching out to students and parents before Monday with the schedule for next week. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at email@example.com. Stay Safe Dave MacLeod Superintendent

It was a pleasant surprise to find one of my art student’s, second grader Stephanie E.’s, mindfulness artwork in my school mailbox. Elementary art students are supplied monthly art lessons to accompany our guidance counselor Mrs. Sutton’s elementary social and emotional learning lessons. Each month has a different theme; so far the students have received lessons covering mindfulness, empathy, career exploration, and gratitude. Great work Stephanie!
This is the last of the 1st Trimester 2020 Art 2 Galleries. Art 2 was a self-directed course where students researched 8 different cultural arts, art time periods or art movements of their choosing; wrote a summary of each chosen subject; created an original artwork in the style of their subject and composed an artist’s statement explaining their creative process. The first photo highlights 11th grader Chelsea W. I have included her artist’s statement below her artwork. Chelsea is an excellent artist and found some not well known but very cool art movements to research and create artwork from. I learned a lot from her! The other photos include the last two class projects. This was an excellent group of young artists. Thank you for being my students!

Second semester Art 1, which I refer to as Art 2, consists of guided, self-directed student projects which include a summary of a student chosen cultural art, notable period of time and/or art movement, an original art work reflecting the students' chosen summary subject and an artist’s statement. I would like to share some excellent student works and their accompanying artist statement which includes: A title and medium of the artist’s work, a description of the artwork itself, a description of the subject matter and choice of medium. The purpose of an artist’s statement is to provide insight into a work of art, not only to the viewer but the artist themselves.
Texture Projects Art 1 Warner Springs High School students have finished a series of texture assignments. The assignment included; 1)Take a cellphone photo that contains 3 actual (real) textures in one shot. 2)Create a simulated texture artwork (reproducing the actual, real texture of an object). 3)Create an invented texture artwork (changing the actual texture of an object to something else, or inventing a texture by using a printing technique such as rubbing over or imprinting an existing texture). 4)Create an abstract texture artwork where the texture itself is the main focus of the work).
