Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you may have heard, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an order today about reopening and closing schools. In the order, he is requiring all districts that are located in counties on the state’s public watch list to start the school year with distance learning until certain conditions are met. This includes San Diego County.
In addition, the new order clarifies some of the state-level expectations around face coverings and physical distancing, and when to reopen and close schools.
We are carefully reviewing the new order to determine what the guidance means for our schools. We recognize that continuing distance learning poses challenges and hardship for many families so we will continue to work diligently to develop plans that have the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students and families at the center.
Because of the Governor’s order, we are unable to begin the school year in person and instead will offer online education. This will be very different than the packet-based learning that we offered in the spring. Teachers have been preparing engaging lessons and developed methods for connecting with each student. As soon as it is safe and we are given the go-ahead by the County Office of Public Health, we will return to a traditional in-school model with an Online option for those who would like to continue with this model.
Warner Unified just opened the online registration portal. It is extremely important to register your children before August 7th by visiting: https://sdhome.sdcoe.net/warner/login_parent_oen.aspx.
Once your child is registered and the required paperwork is turned into the office we will issue them a Chromebook so they can access the online content. To help with internet access, Warner currently has hotspots available for $20 and we are continuing to reach out to other cellular companies to try and provide you additional options.
We will continue communicating with you throughout the summer as additional information and details are available.
We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we adjust to these ever-changing conditions to keep students and employees safe and emerge from this pandemic stronger than ever.
